Seldomly Asked Questions

First off: Why should I trust you?

Good point! I have been selling Graphic Novels and collectibles through my eBay store since 2012.

Please see the testimonials section to see what some of my customers have to say. You should trust them over me.

Where on Earth did you get all of these books?
Easy! I’m a registered retailer with Diamond and Penguin Random House. All of my books are ordered directly through the distributors.

How do you plan on getting me my items safely? Transit can pretty rough!

First and foremost, I am a collector and I want my books to be shipped out the way I’d expect them to come to me. One of my most consistent compliments as a seller is the way I package. I have figured out a reliable concoction of packing peanuts, cardboard cutouts and bubble wrap that keep the books stable and protected from all angles.

What’s up with the cost of shipping?

Shipping is one of the most expensive components of running an online business. The cost of shipping factors in all aspects of shipping, including: tape, peanuts, boxes, bubble wrap, stuffing paper, labels, etc. It is never my goal to make any profit off of shipping charges, however, I have to be firm on the price because otherwise I lose money on the overall sale.

I charge $8.00 flat for Media Mail, regardless of order size. Orders over $200 will automatically be insured at my cost.

Yeah, but WHEN will you ship my book?

48 hours. Tops. That’s the Dying Breed Collectors guarantee. Your tracking will be uploaded and package scanned at the post office within 48 hours of your order. Sure, I’d like to make it 24 hours, but sometimes I need a day off and either way, the post office is closed on Sundays!

Can I pre-order some books?

Unfortunately, pre-order is not available at the moment.

In the past, I have had issues with books arriving damaged directly from the distributors or orders not being completely fulfilled. I cannot run the risk of taking someone’s money ahead of time, only to message them later to say, “Hey, something out of my control happened and now you don’t get the book you paid for. And now it’s out of print. Here’s your money back. Good luck on your hunt.”

Bogus.
That is going to disappoint everyone involved. So for now, the safer bet is to only sell the inventory that I have in hand.

What if I want something that you don’t have?

Drop me a line! I have a contact tab listed above. Not only am I able to special order any books that are currently in stock but I might even have what you’re looking for in my unlisted inventory!

Unlisted inventory??? What do you mean!?

Ah! I’m glad you asked! See here at Dying Breed Collectors, I like to think outside of the box. My listed inventory is in constant rotation and I am continuously adding more and more titles.

Why?

A.) It keeps you coming back for more! Isn’t some of the charm of walking into the comic book store the fact that you never know what you’re going to find? I want to do my best to recreate that feeling here online. Just because something isn’t here one day doesn’t mean it won’t be the next. It’s worth checking in from time to time just to see what’s new.

2.) It helps mitigate someone from buying multiple copies of an OOP book and hopefully helps distribute some of those books a little more fairly, even though they will be competitively priced.

How do you come up with your prices?

My prices are based off of current market value, not MSRP.

There are many arguments to be made about MSRP, price gouging, supply and demand, etc. But at the end of the day, this is a business, and competitive prices, for better or for worse, are a part of that.

Wait a second…those aren’t stock photos!?

No. No they are not. Here at Dying Breed Collectors I understand that you are buying a collectible. In some instances, I will be charging a premium for that collectible (see above question). For that, you deserve to see the actual item that you are getting and be made aware of any imperfections that may come along with it. Sure, it might take me more time to list but I don’t ever want you to feel like you didn’t get exactly what you paid for.

Damages VS Imperfections

The majority of the books that I receive from distributors have some sort of imperfection. Most hardcover dust jackets have some sort of kink or crease, especially in the corners. Sometimes they can even be off center. These would not qualify as damages, however, you should be comfortable with the book you are buying. In the past, I have bought off of websites that use stock photos and have been surprised by an off center dust jacket or two.

What’s your return policy?

As with any reputable collectible store, because of the collectible nature of the items I sell and the potential fluctuation in prices: All sales are final.

But wait…what if my item arrives damaged?

This is the one and only exception in terms of return-ability. Although I pride myself in my shipping protection methods, inevitably, somewhere down the line, an order will get damaged. It’s just the law of averages. Assuming this were to happen, and the order did not have insurance, I would either offer a discount that offsets the damage, or the item would be able to be returned for a full refund. As of now, I cannot guarantee replacement options because inventory is always in flux.

What if I can get it cheaper elsewhere? Will you match the price?

Another reality of owning your own business is knowing your own boundaries. I cannot play the price match game, especially with multi million dollar corporations or even other local shops. I have to charge based on what I pay for my inventory and what my expected profit margin is. You are free to spend your money wherever you choose, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shop around for deals on collectibles for my personal collection. However, I understand and know the value of shopping at local shops and hope that most customers understand why it is important regardless of whether or not you shop with me.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Republic Credits!? Republic Credits don’t work here!

Currently, I only accept PayPal.

Can I purchase from you if I live outside of USA?

I hope to expand this website internationally at some point, but as of now it is US only.

However, I do have an eBay store (under the name dyingbreedcollectors) in which anyone can purchase (Including outside of the USA).

As of now, the eBay international Shipping Program is the easiest method for me to use and also offers the most protection for both the buyer and seller.

Okay, okay…those are pretty decent answers but where can I drop you a line if I have any other questions or if I just want to talk comics?

You can always reach out to me via the contact tab listed above! I love hearing from my customers. Whether it's good or bad, your input and feedback help me become a better retailer and I am always open to hearing it.
